Busog Meal | Bangus Sisig

“Sisig” is the most common dish you’ll find in every Filipinos’ lunch plate. It is everywhere served anywhere. The cheapest meal you can have that has been interpreted several times you just never knew you might have it before. There are certain flavour out there, but the most common is the pork, beef, and bangus sisig.

7 Eleven have a majority of their cheapest rice meal under the “Busog Meal” dedicated to it. Of course, if you no longer have an option or the certain meal item is temporarily not available on their freezer shelf this is where you might end up with. It is not the usual place you’d probably go and rediscover it, but then again you might find the curiosity to try one that you never had before.

There’s nothing much to ramble about ‘another’ sisig, because it’s one of the most staple dish when there’s nothing else in mind. Even if you’re in a lull of so many things to do and the last thing you worry about is what you’ll be having for lunch.

Sometimes on impulse you just go find yourself picking up the meal not because you don’t have any choice. But the 7 Eleven store near you haven’t had any delivery over the weekend and they’re fresh out of anything that is usually stocked on their shelf.

Expectations vs. Reality

It is usually the image that sells the product, where expectation out of impulse makes you want to purchase it as one of the key factors beside that you don’t have any choice to grab on their freezer shelf. If you’re not self-aware about everything it is one of those things you won’t realize that you made that choice.

The Bangus Sisig is under the ‘Busog Meal’of a family of “Sisig” that previously, the Jumbo Sisig was the only thing that stood out because of the large food portion that you were hoping for and it did deliver. For the Bnagus… Not so much to show up for when you unpack it before shoving the tray to the over.

Less is Sometimes Not Good

You hope half of the tray would be equally distributed with a viand (Bangus) with the rice. But it was quite like seeing an island on top of a rice. Sometimes the metaphor is like having mashed potatoes with a smidge of what compliments it.

For this, you feel like underwhelmed by its presentation and feels like you are on a diet. But it’s not what you hope for. There are several situations with the other dishes being reviewed previously. But this one is the most obvious presentation that really hammered it home for a cheap lunch meal.

Overall there are good points to understand why the Bangus Sisig has a tiny portion compared to the other Sisig meals that 7 Eleven had. The usual Sisig is affordable, but if you put it on the same context as with the Bangus they might bump up the price.

  • Food Quality: 3 out of 5
  • Affordability: B-
  • Overall: When price is cheap expect the minimum food portion.
