Previously, the Roasted Pork Belly has been featured as a discovery at Shopwise and has been reviewed. Recently, there was a major price bump in all of the grocery’s food meals, including the rice meals in general, and the roasted meals from the rotisserie that was recently featured here as a new addition to the meals.
It’s no surprise that the Roasted Pork Belly has become a personal favourite to the point it was always sold out because it was affordable. Incomparable to the past featured Pork Bellies, the one at Shopwise was always an immediately sold out that it took them days to restock the rotisserie until the price bump changed all that and only produced a limited number of stock for the week. |
Filipinos like their pork, it is either roasted, fried, or even steamed it is part of their menu as an everyday feast. It is good if it is something affordable to the budget of the general community. At the same time, it is not a healthy meal if you have it every single day of your life. With clogging arteries in mind, it is still a favourite regardless if you are local or a foreigner who appreciates Filipino food.
There’s nothing much to discuss about how good the Roasted Pork Belly is, and despite the price bump, it is the one people gravitate to compared to the Roasted Chicken which is rarely an immediate sell-out from the warmer. The Roasted Pork Belly is the closest thing to having a Lechon on a normal day as compared to actually cutting the skin or having the meat chopped for it to be consumed.
It is a delicacy that you might want to have once or every two weeks as a reward for a “Cheat Day” because you deserve something to feed your tummy and calm the mind of your everyday anxiety. Unless you have high blood you might want to take it slow and not have it that would trigger your unhealthy habits.
The one at Shopwise stays true to its way of packaging this one compared to the last time it was first discovered some weeks ago only to be packed in a cheap box with a plastic wrapping cover for the top. The following weeks after that, they upgraded it to be uniform with the rest of the Rice and Past Meals having their own plastic microwaveable disposable tray and plastic cover.
Of course, you pay the price literally for the price change and it is not going to be as often as you’ll ever have one. But it gives you a perspective that having one is not that bad. But having two or three, well, you may want to check with your GP (General Practitioner) for your high blood as this is not an everyday food to consume.
Overall, it is STILL a good rice meal to have and the Mang Tomas dip is not included to keep you informed if you are hoping there’s a packed-in sachet of dip that is not included. But the amount of sliced pork belly and rice is just about right. Unless you want extra rice they also have it for an extra fee.
- Food Quality: 4 out of 5
- Affordability: A
- Overall: No Dip Included, and Extra Rice is Optional.
