Shopwise Deli | Price Changes Everything

The Deli section at Shopwise is buzzing, not because of the meat or wine being sold there it’s because of the diverse takeaway food that they have produced. The rice meals and other snacks that include fresh-cut fruits and salads are not manufactured in-house. But they have kept this part of the supermarket getting quite the attention for the past months by introducing their rice meal takeaways.

In the last six months, they have continued to keep the Deli section relevant and challenging their competitors. You might think they are competing with other leading supermarkets. They are also competing with convenience stores like 7-Eleven, and surprisingly they keep those options available for consumers on a tight budget.

But with the rising cost, it’s going to be a challenge to have a price match with their competition and it shows that in the Philippines it is not going to be sunny on a hot summer’s day. Even small businesses like New Hatchin Grocery have been struggling to keep up with price demand as their rice meals have been unattainable for some, and yet they still have their ex-pats to keep their products moving.

Early in the day, checking on the Deli section it’s obvious why some of the moving products have kept warm in the rotisserie like the pork belly because of the recent price hike. It still moves but not as quickly as before the change in pricing. The rice meals, on the other hand, still move but the quantities are not as abundant as they used to be when they were stocked.

Slow-selling rice meals

Six months ago, this was not the most noticeable product in the Deli section of Shopwise and now it is one of the most popular products in their store. Looking back at these dishes and the two kinds of pasta that complete a roster of diverse rice meals they have been good in terms of packaging, quality, and price tag.

The change happened in the last two days when the sticker price had bumped up for these favourites. It’s one of the go-to meals to stand out because the packaging is straightforward and does not have an ergonomic shape to look “cute” or stylish cheating the consumer that they are getting more for less.

But in reality, the dishes in them are not enough or the rice is cut down cost like some of the products sold at 7-Eleven or other convenience stores. The one at Shopwise doesn’t need frills or tied-up collaboration with a famous chef. They just give you what you want to take home and have that good lunchtime experience.

You have to have Meatballs

Despite the slight increase in the product, it did not diminish the food that comes with it. You can never have enough when the meatballs are right there meatier than ever and the rice is pristine and ready to be chowed down. It is still good you might want to have another one tomorrow.

But at the end of the day, Filipinos don’t have that budget if they are earning pesos. But for those earning dollars this is nothing. This is why Shopwise is trying its best to keep the price competitive with other competitors like convenience stores and groceries. It gives the consumers something to choose from than having the same thing over and over again.
