Foodie Spotlight | US Spicy Chicken Sandwich

There is something about a “repeat performance” despite the lukewarm experience. Just like the food at Popeye’s they’re really good even though the service is not consistent and sometimes you wonder how they’re not aware about how their customer feels when they were given this kind of service.

But then again, this is about their food that made them this good. Of course the previous experience having a US Spicy as a take away is way different is having it in the store for some pretty much dine-in experience. But this is not about having the meal in the branch itself. This is about the US Spicy Chicken Sandwich experience at the recently opened branch in Glorietta Mall.

To sum up the dine-in experience is a bit busy and everyone is everywhere. But the best part about having dine-in is getting the food delivered on your table straight from the kitchen that was just put together in a mad dash for its definitive freshness. That’s how it looks when you are having it within the store itself.

This is versus having it as a take away and you have to walk about a kilometer away and once you have it unwrapped or set up your table the warmth and the freshness has slightly left the meal’s bit of short life. It is still good no doubt about it just the moment when you try gravitate to the food itself and it just felt like an few minutes has passed not getting freshness right there is entirely different.

The Meal Itself

The US Spicy Chicken sandwich is one of the two flagship sandwiches that Popeye’s has brought in to their menu as part of the brand’s personality. It kicked off the sandwich wars in the Philippines that made other competitors started scrambling and take notes in making their version what is a definitive chicken sandwich.

It is the bigger sandwich that follows the Chicken French Quarter that was first introduced when Popeye’s opened their first few stores back in 2019. It is appropriate this gets featured again as a meal since the previous one was a take away solo sandwich. Besides that, this was consumed in the new store was quite the challenge.

The meal is compose of the US Spicy Chicken sandwich, a tall glass of lemonade with half of its contents are ice (typical Filipino strategy), and large fries. Usually, big sandwiches like this comes in a box, but it is quite a downgrade that it was just wrapped in waxy paper.

Indulging the Spicy-ness

There are so many flavour when you take that bite and all of the goodness ooze through and the details like the jalapeno, lettuce, and sauce just makes this large boneless chicken breast certainly is plainly great. No Filipino should pass on their chicken sandwiches specially this one.

The sandwich itself is already a heavy meal to pass on as dinner. Poepeye’s have rice meals and spaghetti, which is a localized menu not seen in other Popeye’s outside of the Philippines that it is a common denomination that you can see this as part of their menu in their competitors too. But their chicken sandwiches certainly changes the dynamic how they made their competition follow suit putting out different takes on their chicken sandwiches.

Overall Popeye’s US Spicy Chicken sandwich is a winner, but the challenge is keeping it affordable for those who don’t have this most of the time. Majority will gravitate to rice and spaghetti meals because it looks affordable. But people get swayed immediately on what they see. But for those who tried their sandwich makes you realize they have something going on here that’s definitely good.

  • Food Quality: 4.5 out of 5
  • Affordability: B+
  • Overall: It's their flagship sandwich it must be really good
