Hotta Rice | Lechon Paksiw

There’s nothing like having a lunch meal that feels like a home cooked at the same time just right at the budget while you’re at work with so much limited time. The Hotta Rice Meals at 7 Eleven serves up the way it is for people on the go with limited time on their hands, while taking a short break time that fits their work lifestyle.

The Lechon Paksiw is a dish cooked and simmer in vinegar, which is similar to the higher priced version. But not to be confused with the Chef Creations that is a little bit of a premium side for those who want to have a heavier meal. This Hotta Rice version is a downgrade and quite not the same, though it is a similar meal.

Hotta Rice is a quick meal for the get go, which is offered for the people who had limited time. There have been six dishes, which includes this Lechon Paksiw and there are five others in Afritada, Chicken Curry, Pork Siomai, Pork Liempo, and Pork Steak to round them all together.

There have been a ‘retired’ dish like the Pork Dinuguan (Pork Blood Stew) that has been discontinued in 2020. 7 Eleven recently introduced the Afritada and Chicken Curry that is often seen, but not rare to balance out the majority of ‘Pork’ with their dishes as they have refreshed this set it is the current dishes for this year.

Saucy Paksiw

You expect to have the same tasteful impact if you have tried the Chef Creations version, but it is entirely an in-house 7 Eleven dish without any collaboration as they want to keep this dish beyond the budget and they manage to even make it less expensive having the same price point like the Pork Siomai.

Of course, this is not as the meatiest with mostly covering the rice with the sauce and the meat is not in abundance. It is understandable for its food portions with concerns to the dish. But it still delivers its flavours and keeping that Filipino-style home cooking that you’ll find served in popular food stalls known as ‘Jollijeep.’

Spruced up with Dip

The sauce might be good, but sometimes you need to spruce it up with something spicy by adding a Spicy Mang Tomas to keep it interesting. This is just optional for those who wants to try it out. But if you’re the one with the limited time you just have it straight up after getting it heat up on the microwave.

It’s not a perfect meal despite being a ‘budget’ product, but if you’re pressed for time you just have it to go heated up and having it eaten it. There’s nothing like a satisfaction for having a home cooked meal away from home. It’s not what you expect but can still deliver to fill up your hungry tummy.

Overall it’s all about the sauce and the meat, which is not in balance with understanding to keep the cost down. It is saucier than meet and yet it still good to have if you’re not a heavy eater just to keep you filled up in-between a hectic day. The Free Banana was a good touch since it’s only for this day it was offered for every purchase of Hotta Rice meals.

  • Food Quality: 3.5 out of 5
  • Affordability: A
  • Overall: Too Saucy and not much Lechon
