Hotta Rice | Pork Steak

Pork Steak is one of the uncommon budget meals under Hotta Rice branding for 7 Eleven. It’s a well-known dish around the world, which is mentioned as far back to the year 1739. It is also called Boston Butt or Pork Blade Steak that is cut from the shoulder of the pig.

Though without details about how they were cut or how they were cooked.

It is one of the three “Pork” meals for Hotta Rice that always fly off the freezer shelf, which means it is very popular. But not as rare as the Liempo or the Afritada meals that usually takes a few days for 7 Eleven to restock in one particular branch.

Nobody don’t want to miss out having a Pork Liempo, and most of the time it is a pricy meal. But 7 Eleven manages to make it into one of the popular dish for the Hotta Rice branding, and it doesn’t disappoint unless they do not include the sauces that needs for it to be that kind of meal they have advertised.

Most of the Filipino dishes needs a sauce and a Liempo doesn’t come with that kind of option, which understandable for keeping the product under the budget. It is the top Hotta Rice meal that flies off the freezer shelf, and the most convenient meal to have if you work in the office and wanting something feels like ‘home cooked.’

Appearance can be Meaty

This dish can be compared to the Grilled Liempo, where the meat appears to be thick though it is not. The steak is cut up to little strips in various sizes and it is not what you’d expect on the product image display on the cover of the plastic lid.

But once you fire up the Microwave (depends on the voltage and allowed time to cook) it’s where you see the difference when it is finally cooked. All the sleeping sauce gets to marinate the meat and voila! You get yourself the budget meal version of the Pork Steak from Hotta Rice.

Dried as you Expected

Of course, the sauce is almost non-existent that supposed to be there, but it is not what you thought of. Filipino home cooked version of the Pork Steak is usually not dry and it swims with its own juice, which is what most Pork Steaks should be.

But it also makes sense why it is dry and there are other interpretations what is a Pork Streak. It is also understandable that 7 Eleven is keeping it under the budget for this reason why they have little sauce on the product and meat of it is the steak itself.

Overall the most favourite Filipino cuisine that’s quite rare, which also need the required sauce or dip to have that good pork belly experience. Without these suggested options it may end up being a letdown dry dish you highly hoped to have the best experience that needs to have their sauces included permanently not optional.

  • Food Quality: 3.5 out of 5
  • Affordability: B
  • Overall: Sauce is not enough.
