Uma Delica | Special Tonkatsu

There are difference to how a meat is deep-fried. For the Japanese, there are certain textures and colours that you’ll notice. It’s not dipped too much in oil and doesn’t appear to be dry or overly cooked to the point it doesn’t look healthy. Japan knows a thing or two how it is done and it is quite remarkable why it taste and look good.

New Hatchin Grocery have their ways of having in-house takeout meals look special. They are meticulously prepared to make you feel and have the experience authentic Jaopanese food in your home. For those never gotten to travel in Japan they surely make sure you have the same tasteful experience like this Special Tonkatsu 150G!

Tonkatsu is a Japanese dish that consists of a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet. It involves coating slices of pork with panko (bread crumbs), and then frying them in oil. The two main types are fillet and loin. By description it’s prepared like that way, and yet some would-be Japanese food establishment don’t really capture the essence of what a Tonkatsu taste like.

The details itself how carefully they prepare this and this is the reason why New Hatchin Grocery have a unique way to make their in-house meals look and feel authentic from Japan despite only being prepared locally.

There are levels of details how visually they look like in their product photo and the actual meal itself. It’s impressive when you actually have the experience having it in the confines of your home as they (the grocery) do not have a dine-in area. Their range of Uma Delica meals are for take away and some can be heated to your microwave as their bowls and plastic containers can be used for the said oven.

150 Grams of Special

The Special Tonkatsu doesn’t come with a rice, it is just the breaded meat itself sitting on the shredded cabbage covered with lettuce and mint leaves that is accompanied with a single cherry tomato. This dish is always sold out at New Hatchin that you may need to be early to have them set up their in-house meals.

It is either you can have it without rice that is so good you may want to break that diet from not having carbs. It is packaged in a non-microwaveable tray vacuum wrapped only by a plastic cover. But you can definitely see the vibrant texture and colours.

Magic SAuce

It is not the Tonkatsu that makes this meal a hot seller definitely it is the sauce that makes you want to have two cups of rice. The special sauce is a compliment that makes the Tonkatsu taste so good you’d probably want to ask if New Hatchin could share that ingredient to product a batch for yourself.

Despite this one not as fresh as you’d expect most of the Special Tonkatsu they have are always crunchy and so refine that’s too good. This is one not being fresh has been sitting on their shelf past lunch was a mistake not to ignore. It’s rare that it gets passed on for other Uma Delica dishes and it was certainly the only one there that’s good.

Overall never passed on this Special Tonkatsu, this one rarely get seen past noon time and it is always the first one to go from their food shelf. This is one of the hot sellers under New Hatchin’s Uma Delica meals. It is also the only dish that never comes with rice that you should definitely have as good as it ever will be.

  • Food Quality: 4 out of 5
  • Affordability: B+
  • Overall: The winner here is the sauce, and they should give us the ingredients to make one for ourselves.
