Foodie Spotlight | Double Cheeseburger

When you talk about Hamburgers you got McDonald’s come to mind since they have served billions around the world for more than six decades, and they’re still every store in the world is re-inventing themselves to suit the taste of their native culture. It also shows here in the Philippines despite the slow progress they made it happen.

Recently, not the most major announcement but they have re-introduced some of their famous and locally made burgers to go ‘a little bit of green’ by adding lettuce and tomatoes to the well-established dish. This comes to head how climate change is affecting not only the places, but how food is prepared and McDo just did that.

The Double Cheeseburger has been part of McDonald’s DNA along with the original hamburger that was replaced in the Philippines with the localized version of a Burger McDo that doesn’t have the pickle. Onions, and the familiar patty.

Instead, the franchise made their version of a “Filipino Burger” and called it Burger McDo that consist of a special brand of mayo and a patty that compliments that sweet burger taste. It is the only change McDonald’s did for their burger and retains the rest of the world renowned sandwiches. This time around they add some greens with some of those above mentioned dishes.

Double-double Cheeseburger Please

If you’re familiar with that all TVC commercial, where there was a rhyme spoken with "Double-Double Cheese-Cheese Burger-Burger, Please?" is not just some McDonald’s call out but a TV ad promoting the Double Cheeseburger from the late 1980s/early 1990s that has been stuck to a collective consciousness.

Of course, McDo in the Philippines had it for limited time before. But now they add it as part of their regular list in their menu that included the original Cheeseburger. It also has a Secret Menu version called the Triple Cheeseburger.

Lettuce and Tomatoes Please-Please

Interesting how McDonald’s gives a premium by adding some greens to their existing Double Cheeseburger and it taste even better. No longer the dry double beef patty with a sprinkle pickles and onions with cheese. The lettuce and tomatoes makes the crunchier experience with mouthwatering feels.

The once beefed up cheeseburger not only comes in double, but with all the right things about a hamburger could be, which adding some veggies in it. Sure, some Filipinos won’t want their burger to be like they used to be. But they haven’t had that experience what an American burger would be adding up with these veggies.

Overall adding not just the crunch goodness of what a cheeseburger from McDonald’s would taste like, but also the color green and red makes up the personality of what an American hamburger is known for, and that’s why McDonald’s became known for it.

  • Food Quality: 4 out of 5
  • Affordability: B-
  • Overall: Lettuce & Tomatoes add colour to the Double Cheeseburger, but a little bit pricey.
