Long before 7 Eleven has established having their own brand of chicken meals there was another convenient store who dominated the competition in the 2000s. But that is now the past and this is now, where you can now get fried chicken from 7 Eleven besides that globally world renowned Filipino-owned fast food restaurant with a bee as its face of their brand.
“Crunch Time” doesn’t necessarily stand for just their crispy fried chicken, as 7 Eleven also serve chicken nuggets and other tasty treats that are already good for dine-in in their store or a take away for you to appreciate in the confines of your home. Their chicken is massively popular and it is always sold out.
Meatier than Crunchy
There are options to have one or two piece chickens on your meal with a steamed rice wrap in wax paper that includes two dips. It’s the usual Filipino way of having crispy fried chicken with a gravy dip than traditional dips having ketchup or barbecue sauce.
Despite the promotion and the name of being ‘Crunch Time’ the chicken is meatier than you didn’t expect. The texture and how it was being promoted through product photography doesn’t justify how good 7 Eleven’s take on a friend chicken could be this so good that you might want to come back the next day.
The Rice of Crunch Time
Sometimes the steam rice is not completely ‘steamed’ in goodness, but the one came with this meal was just about right. The chicken skin is a slight salty that can’t barely describe as not bad, but the flavour is not what you’d expect.
It’s meatier than most fried chicken out there than looks big, but when you have it just shrink with all the layers of chicken skin. This one was what the other convenient store used to be back in the mid-2000s, but not that salty though this one might be different as 7 Eleven tries to have their own distinct taste.
Overall goodness for a two-piece chicken and TWO RICE not have one piece. But if you’re watching what you consume a one-piece rice and chicken is enough to have your lunch filled with that crispy and meaty white meat. It definitely crunched its way to be good when you least expect it.
- Food Quality: 4 out of 5
- Affordability: B+
- Overall: One piece chicken is more than the rice it came with.
