| With so many convenient stores offering their take on some famous rice meal dishes, you might rarely stumble upon bigger supermarkets that offer the same alternative at an affordable price that is just right if you know where to look. This past week was quite a discovery by accident and its popularity is taking off.
Shopwise is best known for being a big grocery offering products and even ingredients to make your food. But offering rice meals was not one of them, and it was quite a surprise that something like this would find its way to their Deli area, which is a newly renovated image for Shopwise that’s been around. |
The interesting part is they offered Salad Kits and other sliced fruits, but not rice meals. Most of the food items that you take home without the need to cook are fruits and veggies or Salad Kits without the need to heat them as they are already served fresh and wrapped in a thin plastic just to protect them.
But the rice meals were a different story as the staff assigned in the area says it is not an in-house product. Someone delivers them as early as 10 am every Tuesday and yet finds them out near where all the sliced fruits and Salad Kits add diversity to the food they offer that been around being put on the area where you will immediately find them in the Deli section.
The staff adds that they only get limited delivery of three quantities per dish and it slowly caught on how affordable they were compared to leading convenience stores that have the same price. Still, the difference is that they did not scrimp on the portions as the packaging is straightforward (more of this below).
Meatballs in Flavourful Sauces
One of the in-demand dishes is the Meatballs with Sweet and sour Sauce. You will find that this is always being sold out. Meatballs are popular regardless if they are swimming deep in a sweet or sour sauce or it is the flavour of your sub sandwich. It is always the one people demand, yet finding one is already a steal.
The sauce itself is enough despite not being too rich, but not too liquidly enough for you to put it on top of the rice before you slice and dice the meatballs into portions that are so good. The packaging for these rice meals is straightforward without any contours to cheat the consumer and make them believe there’s enough on the contents. But this one was just right for the Meatballs, the sauce, and the rice.
Shopwise made it Right
At the heart of the meal is the Chicken BBQ, and for every review featuring a dip or a sauce it is the added taste that makes the flavor go around and connect with the main meal. You can have slices of that white meat. But what makes it go is the dip or the sauce and that part needs more.
The Java Rice is great together with the Chicken BBQ, but the dip is not filled to the brim of that little container. It is the first one that is noticeable when it comes to grilled meat that needs its sauce and if it lacks that how can you fully appreciate the entirety of the meal if that was not enough?
Overall, it is an in-demand product, and having it once is not enough. The portions for the rice and the three meatballs swimming in the sweet and sour sauce were next to perfect. You can’t find any convenient store to offer meatballs with rice like the ones you can only find at Shopwise it would look travesty for them.
But this one was a winner by packaging, pricing, and the way it was portioned. It was unfortunate that it was one of the in-demand dishes that Shopwise couldn’t supply enough to please everyone. You need to be early to keep an eye on the staff stocking it or you will miss this one out.
