The Braised Pork Belly is a gaifan dish found in Fujianese cuisine and Taiwanese cuisine. Although subject to regional variations, dishes are typically made of pork belly cooked in a process known as lu (boiled and marinated in soy sauce and sugar) and served on top of rice. Chinese pickles are often eaten with the dish.
However, the version Shopwise is offering uses local ingredients that fit the budget of low-income consumers. But they don’t scrimp on quality over quantity, which is another reason why this dish is always sold out along with the Meatballs that are not usually seen on the display. The Braised Pork Belly is one of the dishes you should try from Shopwise, and you won't disappointed taking a closer look at this meal. |
Sometimes you don’t need to have a fancy dish to be familiar with the masses. You can produce the best quality meals that everyone can afford and appreciate. This is why Shopwise is winning in the lunch meal battles with convenience stores, despite not being well-known for carrying rice meals.
It is also evident that they want to capture not only the local walk-in grocery shopper but also the ones who crave to just buy instant meals without the need to cook or prepare. Despite being known as a supermarket, Shopwise Supermarket tried to experiment, and it paid off by re-inventing the supermarket experience with these meals.
Belly Good for Your Money
The Braised Pork Belly meal is not the usual one that always gets left off the food display. But when you see one, you better try one and it is one of the best Shopwise Supermarkets has ever produced from their rice meals. As always, the packaging is on a rectangular shape tub with the right section of portions between viand and rice.
You can see the Braised Pork Belly settled on its sauce that is so mouthwatering that you can’t wait to head home and shove it into your microwave. Usually, the instructions say you need 5 minutes, but if you own a high-heat microwave, the minimum is good for 2 minutes and you get that meal ready to consume.
Braised for Yourself
There’s nothing less about having a Chinese Cuisine for your lunchtime. You see the shredded egg-like noodles on the side with the three thick slices of Braised Pork not looking like some fancy meat being on a budget is just right to compliment the rice beside it at the same time, the sauce is not looking like it dried up but it is there.
There’s no waste of product once you start consuming this meal, and the compliment to the way it is priced the same as the other meals at the same time keeps the budget and quality balanced together not looking like it “just for aesthetics” but having the quality in it to come back for seconds.
Overall, the Braised Pork Belly is another winner for Shopwise to have on their menu of lunch meals. It is one of the best besides the Meatballs as always the sold-out food items you need to keep an eye out for instead of missing out.
- Food Quality: 5.5 out of 5
- Affordability: A+
- Overall: A Must-have meal that does not cut corners and continues to balance the pricing and quality of the food that needs to be stocked at all times.
