They have the most lunch bowls that you may only find in premium Japanese restaurants for an affordable price. Despite the recent price increases their products have been consistently the favourites who have become regular visitors at the shop and they continue to grow in maintaining that aspect of why they have been the place to shop, especially during the weekends.
There have been many Asian Groceries that have opened up shop in the last two decades, but New Hatchin has been around since the early 2000s opening one branch. But by 2023 they already established three branches in strategic locations that carry the same value and consistency in delivering authentic Japanese products throughout Metro Manila it is a crime if you haven’t heard about this place.
Sukiyaki Don
The dish featured here is sort of a combination of two types of Japanese dishes. The Sukiyaki and Donburi have a combination of rice, chicken egg, shitake mushrooms, Negi, and Tofu. The main dish features shredded beef, which is slowly cooked or simmered alongside vegetables and other ingredients.
Its serving is just right for a medium-sized bowl, and for someone who never experienced authentic dining in a Japanese restaurant you get that in this affordable way at the same time it gives you an idea now to come back and try some of their other dishes that are a lot more available on Saturdays.
Premium Japanese Experience
You can never have Japanese lunch meals without trying their other dishes and the Sukiyaki Don is not usually served or available regularly. Most of the time, the Uma Delica dishes are widely available on Saturdays as most ex-pats travel to where they are located and get their hand on a piece of what used to be served in their home country.
The usual meals sold on weekdays do not include the Sukiyaki Don, and based on how it was prepared it is one of the semi-premium lunch bowls that can only bought on a Saturday, and it serves well to understand the complexities of how it is prepared and cooked and once you have it you’ll understand why it is one of the favorites.
Overall, it is a fine meal to appreciate and to have that is something worth the money as it used to be affordable. But the recent price bump made it a little pricey. But if you can have it once a week you’re sold to come back and be early to grab one out the counter as it is one of the few that moves from their shelf.
- Food Quality: 4 out of 5
- Affordability: B-
- Overall: The quality is consistent, but the price is not making this affordable anymore.
