Foodie Spotlight | Mushroom Burger Steak

McDonald’s is known for Burgers, Fries, and Chicken, but not with rice in them that has been clearly an Asian concept due to the cultural difference from the American fast food restaurant. For McDonald’s Philippines, it’s all about having rice meals though not as extensive having their take other than having Spaghetti as an exclusive.

But having Rice Bowls was originally a Limited Time Only until it became part of their menu. The rice bows used to have a selection until they just focused on having Mushroom Burger Steak with that creamy sauce as the representative of their rice meals aside from the Chicken Fillet and the typical Fried Chicken with rice is their go to meals for the locals that are not into the American-style Burgers & Fries.

With the Rice Bowls their pretty much in direct competition with the local fast food chain that have a similar product. But their take has the slight difference of having a creamy flavoured sauce than just a conventional sauce that would complement the burger patty that makes up of the meal.

In some ways, the Rice Bowls have to be something more than just the Mushroom Burger Steak to build up a brand not just the usual Chicken with rice meals that the masses are overly familiar with. But with keeping to the McDonald’s branding they stick with the familiar thing that is in sandwich form.

The rice bowls are not entirely familiar outside the local dinning community in the country. But if you’re a tourist or a visitor who never had this type of McDonald’s meal you’d be in a treat to appreciate it.

Creamy Kind of Burger Steak

It is a rice bowl meal, and the packaging shows a paper bowl with a plastic top (for take away/take out). This is usually served in this way much like the Gourmet Grilled Chicken Salad from Maccas Australia have with their exclusive greens.

Of course, for those take out/take away meals if you are not satisfied with how warm is your Mushroom Burger Steak it can be heated using a microwave by removing the plastic top that is not supposed to be included when you put it for heating. But that creamy part sure is something to make the burger patty stand out with its taste.

It's a Dine-In Meal

To better appreciate the rice bowl this Mushroom Burger Steak is best consumed upon being served directly from the kitchen. The not-so good part of having it as a takeout/take away is the sauce being absorbed by the rice while in transit makes you feel like they never put it there.

The sauce is in there but it already dissipated during transit that loses the reason why it was a sought after rice bowl because of the sauce that came with it. But it’s all good when you have it as a dine-in experience to better have that flavourful meal.

Overall this is one of McDonald’s underrated rice meals and the only Rice Bowl they have, which is a missed opportunity if they do not expand the “Rice Bow” portfolio and not stuck to just ‘limited time only’ meals would greatly make their menu unique.

  • Food Quality: 4 out of 5
  • Affordability: B
  • Overall: Missed Opportunity if they don't expand the Menu for the Rice Bowls.
