Foodie Spotlight | Spicy Chicken McDo

There’s nothing like having fried chicken with rice or even mashed potatoes as an alternative. It is the simplest joys of having lunch just straight up quick meal for an affordable price. Of course, there are A LOT of competition riding on just the simplest meal in the form of a Fried Chicken. There have been so many of them you might get lost in choosing the best one.

In the case of McDonald’s there are just cruising along with their usual Chicken McDo meal, which is exclusive to the Philippines that serves with a steamed plain white rice. They’re up there because they have so much to offer and more, and this includes a spiced up version of their tried and tested chicken meal.

The usual Chicken McDo have an option for a 1 piece or two piece. They also offer special group packages or as part of the food option for organizing parties and work meeting at McDonald’s. It is one of the brand’s core dishes being part of the menu since they opened their doors in the early 1980s.

Over the years the Filipino taste has evolved and McDonald’s tries its best to be relevant in capturing the market trying to be ahead of the competition while trying new things despite the subtlety to try and see if the consumer will go for it.

Spicy Edge

The Chicken McDo was only offered in its original flavour, and it has become a staple in their menu along with originals like McSpaghetti and Burger McDo. Their Chicken McDo despite not the favourite for the masses it is still one of the most ordered meals for dine-in and take out.

With the spicy version it something ‘new’ as McDonald’s is also capitalizing in spicing up their Chicken Sandwich and McNuggets if the locals will try their take on these beloved meals on their menu.

Hotter than Ever

The Chicken McDo is different even in the Original flavour doesn’t have that sweet tender flavour, but their gravy dip makes up for the lack of that type of taste. But with the spicy version you feel that hotness with the spice at the core of the chicken and it’s not just on the breaded chicken skin.

This might not be the best, but the spice is really getting into your taste buds that you may need extra rice (depends on the chicken part though) to give in a second round as sometimes the chicken is all what its left and the rice is gone.

Overall McDonald’s still needs to work on the chicken’s taste and what they aim for than just playing catch up with competition. The spicy version is good, but it doesn’t leave you wondering if you had a Chicken McDo or just some random chicken meal.

  • Food Quality: 3.5 out of 5
  • Affordability: B-
  • Overall: Not the flavourful, but it has a Spicy Edge
