Hotta Rice | Chicken Curry

Chicken Curry is a global dish originating in Indian subcontinent, where it is their everyday food. Its popularity has spread out to Southeast Asia, Great Britain, and the Caribbean. In the Philippines, the Chicken Curry has been localized with the use of the ingredients available to this country and has become a staple as a favourite.

With 7 Eleven, it i,/as introduced under their Hotta Rice branding as one of the five affordable meals that you’ll find in most branches. It is still uncommon in comparison with the Afritada but when it is stocked this immediately gets sold out. You can never have just the usual Filipino meal, you just got to have a Chicken Curry.

Like most of the Hotta Rice meals they are smaller than the usual meals being offered in a round paper cup with a plastic lid. For the Chicken Curry, the contents are separated with the top plastic container and the main paper cup-type bowl. This dish was introduced sometime in 2021 along with the Afritada.

At the same time, previous Hotta Rice meals were sort of retired due to the supply of ingredients and cost has risen. They have to keep things under the budget while adding a fresh take on the product in maintaining relevance to 7 Eleven’s wide variety of dishes from budget to the premium products they offer.

Indian Dish, Filipino-style

The Chicken Curry is an international food, and back home it is a common everyday dish that has been adopted in the Philippines as its own with a slight difference in the ingredients being used. But the concept stays the same in keeping it very much an Indian dish people would find curiosity to try.

Stored in a plastic microwaveable container it is frozen, but ready to consume once you heat it up. But the best way to have your Chicken Curry is when the dish is on top of the white rice and then you heat it up. This is better to make the both the dish and rice cooked together and you can just easily mix it up.

Keeping it Genuine

The first thing you see once you pull it out the microwave is the curry paste, which is thick that heaps good as the diced carrots and potatoes are just floating as you see the large round chicken meat being covered by it. This would have been better if the round chicken meat was not the only one you’ll notice.

They could have at least cut that round meat into pieces than just one object that can be immediately consumed without being mixed with the curry pastes and the veggies that came with.

Overall it is a lunch on the go for this Chicken Curry at the right price and for those keeping things on a budget while a having its benefits. There’s nothing new to the Chicken Curry but as a another product to choose from under the Hotta Rice branding that also compliments the other choice you’ll find for those who want something different and that you never have cooked at your own home.

  • Food Quality: 3.5 out of 5
  • Affordability: A-
  • Overall: Thick sauce, but not enough
