Every local in the Philippines must have Chicken Joy in their meal, and it is most desired as long lines build during lunch hour to have their favourite dish that includes Filipinos living in other countries.
The Chicken Joy is either served with the original or spicy version. It is also included in the menu for the Jolly Kiddie Meal for kids. Take away has an option not to include a drink and that’s not even available option for its rival McDonald’s.
What's in the Box?
In the early days, most of Jollibee’s meals are package in Styrofoam, but by the 2010s they started to be more environmental conscious by switching to recyclable cardboard. It’s hilarious how the Chicken Joy box doesn’t even have details if they’re serving one-piece or 3-piece chickens.
It’s just a plain white box that shows the name of the product and the Jollibee branding, while at the back it just says 40 years of serving their food as this was an ‘Anniversary Edition’ packaging. At the bottom you’ll the recycle symbol.
You get a 1-piece chicken with steamed rice wrapped in protective paper, and that thick gravy as your dip. Pretty much the interior packaging is covered with waxed. Often most would use the paper wrapper that wraps the steamed rice as a ‘place mat’ inside the box.
Crunchy Goodness
Like most Chicken Joy they are crunchy and meaty as for the reason this is a favourite meal from Jollibee. The winner for most part beside the chicken is the dip. It’s not liquidity and the steamed rice is just came from the cooker. The chicken skin indulgence is not enough when you ran out of gravy.
But most would have poured over the gravy on top of the steamed rice and have a go with Chicken Joy, which sometimes some would forgo using the plastic utensil to use their hands eating it. For this one, the chicken part was from the ribs and it still had enough meat for a second heaps of rice.
Overall Chicken Joy is on top of everyone’s favourite when having lunch, and for those who doesn’t have a Jollibee nearby must be salivating on the crunchy and meaty chicken that you may need a second round of steamed rice. The gravy though, is great but there should be other dip choices too.
