Shopwise Grab & Go | Pork Belly

Shopwise is not just a supermarket and has proven to constantly reinvent its portfolio by having a Deli section that not only sells fresh meat or frozen goods. But also, adding snacks and rice meals that do not need to be cooked and only need to be heated in a microwave by a consumer.

They already have this since adding a Rotisserie section, but the shelf that has the fried chicken on special packaging is not skewered and is not being cooked in front of you. The display has a see-through blind that you can flip up to open to pick up the food. It’s a shelf that has a hot surface and it is not exactly a Rotisserie.

The Deli section is where the Shopwise Meals can be found, but for this day they have not stocked the rice meals in the past few days. They are quite popular that they can’t keep up with the demand for some of the dishes. You have to be ahead of finding options to replace that if you have been having the same meals.

Shopwise has options if you know where to look, and the Grab & Co section has a hot surface display for fried or grilled chicken and pork are stocked for pick-up, They are usually sold out as well. But for this day, they have both chicken and pork rice meals.

Pork Belly

They’re a bit higher price point than the usual Shopwise Meals. They come packaged in a standard carton box with a shrink-wrapped top to protect the food. But you can see clearly, that the sliced-up pork belly sits on the side with a lot of rice. If that was not enough they also sell extra rice wrapped like a hamburger.

The product is straightforward, it is without the protective plastic cover or tray. It is stored in a rectangular carton box with the sticker price on the shrink-wrapped top. For a regular who consumes pork belly, this is mouth-watering to immediately put it in the microwave and have it like most pork bellies ever sold out there.

A Dip for the Belly

Of course, you can’t have a Pork Belly without having a bottle of Mang Tomas dipping sauce waiting for it to be poured on after you have it cooked in a microwave. This was everything that hit the spot because the meal itself did not come with a dip as there were no attendants who would have one to provide a packet.

For every Pork Belly consumed, it is a glorious thing to have once in a while for a “Cheat Day” and also have an extra rice when you’re ahead if you think it won’t be enough to consume the viand without the rice.

Overall, there are several takes and variations of a pork belly. But at the end of the day, it is a popular dish that the locals would immediately grab and go straight to the counter to get while it’s hot, and if that’s not enough, just pop it in the microwave and prepare your Mang Tomas dipping sauce for it.

  • Food Quality: 4.5 out of 5
  • Affordability: A
  • Overall: You may need to get an extra rice for it.
