Dunkin Donuts | Korea's Best Kept Treats

Dunkin Donuts has been one of the go to places in the Philippines to have a quick treat. There’s a lot to be said about this famous donut restaurant. Currently, there have been competitors that want to dethrone this donut joint with Mister Donut, J.Co, and Krispy Kreme to name a few of those places that has been popping up in the Philippines.

But there’s still Dunkin Donut that still have kiosks around the city and a few restaurants that are considered ‘hole in the wall’ that still have enough donuts to keep competition at bay.

But in some countries there are more to Dunkin than just donut pastries, and you’ll be surprised why you’ll feel like the local version in the Philippines is kind of holding itself.

While I was waiting for my flight back to Manila during a work-related trip in Busan, South Korea I happen to lounge around the gate terminals and see what’s interesting in this place. I haven’t been looking around outside work as the day is not enough for leisure so I settled look at the stores that’s inside Gimhae International Airport.

I’ve been to Korea before and that was almost eight years ago, but never had the experience to dine-in at their local Dunkin Donuts same with now due to that the boarding time was less than an hour so it was just a quick browse through the stores and what to see. One of these places is Dunkin Donuts which is a bit more high-end compared to the ones in the Philippines. This is just simply a kiosk, a very large one at the matter which has some interesting stuff on their display.

Milk Tea, various Sandwiches, and Salads are some alternatives at Dunkin Donuts in Korea.

As I walk closer to the store I quickly see what they have and you’d be surprised to see SALADS. Yes, healthy snacks on their open glass display were bursting with a lot of green. For a store known to serve sweet snacks you’ve been shock to see that Dunkin Donuts in Korea serve salads and why in the Philippines still stuck with the pastry that they’ve been known for.

Beside the healthy snack is the variety of drinks they serve not just your usual soda, but merchandise drinks that can be collectibles for some. It would be shocking to know why Dunkin Donuts in the Philippines is holding itself from being a BETTER store than its competitor and the reality like any local fast food restaurant in the country the theme they keep things affordable is being “STINGY.” For the local people who haven’t travelled outside the Philippines this is what Dunkin Donuts in Korea serves WAY BETTER with quality and a variety of choices aside from their donuts.

Did you just see "Collectible Dinks" that has Hello Kitty characters in them? Dunkin Donuts Korea has them too.

It’s probably hard for some to accept that we’ve been limited to what we only know about Dunkin Donuts limiting themselves to become like Starbucks quality with a dash of Wendy’s salad essentials.

This won’t happen soon in the Philippines despite being slowly overtaken by their competitors and their respond would probably be “we’re happy for what we are over these years to stick to the same formula,” but I may be wrong or the Philippine version could get inspiration from their foreign counterparts. But I’m not holding to expectations as they say “why we can’t have good things” is purely an understatement.
