Coca-Cola x Jollibee | Its Just a Can

In early 2019 there’s something new to see and most definitely to taste. Filipinos adore tasting not only the good vibes but having a drink in hand.

Recently, Coca-Cola Philippines and Jollibee collaborated on an exclusive product for one of the soda company and the country’s number 1 fast food chain with the Coca-Cola x Jollibee drink.

For the curious soft drinker out there outside the Philippines, what’s the hype surrounding the Coca-Cola x Jollibee Edition. There have been other Coca-Cola products out there that definitely are exclusive for a particular country or just the change in season. Although this country has only two in a year there so much to look forward to with this new Coke.

In Australia, last winter Coca-Cola Australia launched the Coke Orange, a citrusy hit with their new product adding to an expansive taste that they already have Coca-Cola Raspberry, Coca-Cola Plus Coffee No Sugar, and that unforgettable Coca-Cola Ginger. To keep relevance, freshness, and competition in their heels Coca-Cola in other countries has done wonders for the brand.

But in the Philippines instead of product, they sponsored music scene cultivating talent with the recent Coca-Cola Studio. Product-wise there hasn’t been many efforts with how to expand the brand and adding flavor to the much popular soft drink has been different. With the Jollibee collaboration this would have been something everyone was talking about, but just like opening a new can of Coca-Cola the interest surrounding it just immediately fizzled out.

It’s just a Coca-Cola can with Jollibee print on the can, which is a total waste of marketing hype that should have been more than just the exterior of the product. You pay PHP 45.00 Pesos ($0.88 USD | $1.25 AUD) having the same Coca-Cola flavor and nothing more.

They (Coca-Cola Philippines) should have taken advantage in expanding the brand with Jollibee with a unique flavor exclusive to the fast food giant. But instead, everyone takes home a can with Jollibee art in it without that experience of a different taste from the soft drink company such a waste effort that both brands should have capitalized.

Oh well, at least I enjoyed consuming the Champ for an early dinner, and as for the Coca-Cola X Jollibee Edition? Just don’t waste your hard earned money on these cans they’re not worth spending. This is what you call stingy marketing just to drive the product in a discussion. Both companies should have capitalized on introducing an exclusive product but it only entices you to buy a Coca-Cola can that just had Jollibee’s mascot and that was it.

Moral lesson here is these companies should not be stingy in making people buy things just for aesthetics, not for experience, whoever who does these marketing for the product should not think small that they can slap Jollibee’s image on a Coca-Cola can. It’s just lazy and wastes on investing something not well thought about.
