Purefoods | Chicken Drummets

There’s nothing like an instant cook to have some Chicken Drummets. From the looks of it, they are unfamiliar, as they are the first section of a chicken wing, attached to the main body that resembles a small drumstick. They could be mistaken for slightly meaty Nuggets, but they aren’t what you thought they were until you pop them in the oven to have them for lunch.

Purefoods has a list of interesting snacks in its portfolio that most consumers are not familiar with. They must have some of these only sold in select locations that are seemingly unfamiliar to the locals who get them. Well, if you live in a remote area, they are as ‘out of this world’ as they are for being an interesting treat.

A while back, for a food run in the municipal town of Baganga in Davao Oriental, there was the frozen section inside a well-known pharmacy store. It’s really that unusual for a place known for selling medicine and other medical–related things to be able to carry frozen food in their area, which is not even a supermarket.

It’s quite the type of thing that would be unusual if you are a person who lives in a big city. It’s also interesting to see that they carry frozen food compared to the biggest one located outside the municipal town, and it is the part you face palm yourself, why they don’t have any, and this place has them piled up in there.

Chicken Drummets

For a name, it does look unusual to see these back in Manila, where they might be plentiful, but they are not even found at the local grocery store nearby. It is out of the left field to even be surprised that Purefoods to even produced something simple and conveniently good to cook for less than 10 minutes of your time.

Let’s just say, the cooking time of five minutes is not enough to have something sitting in the freezer for the last 2-3 weeks to cook easily in five minutes. But popping it in one-by-one inside the toaster oven, you’ll be surprised that putting it into a ten-minute cooking time is not enough.

It’s All Gravy

What do KFC and Jollibee in the Philippines have to offer that keeps people from going back? Simple, the dipping sauce of the gravy is enough to stop you on your tracks, that it the one thing that makes you have more chicken on your plate.

Mang Tomas is legendary, but the man with a hat in a brown saucy bottle is not the hero here. Of course, every gravy has its ‘secret’ recipe, and that is the one thing that makes fried chicken taste good. Even the one sold at Project Pie won’t share their secret to their popular gravy dip.

This one comes unprepared in a white pouch that you pour into a coffee cup and add water to mix it, and you've got yourself a gravy for your Dummets. Yes, the pouch that came with this is not like the barbecue sauce from the Alphabet Nuggets. You have to prepare for it with hot water and mix to serve, and it is that good.

Overall, seven Drummets that don’t translate well when you have a gravy to make it even tastier. The gravy was not even enough to fulfill that with seven meaty Drummets that need to be cooked around 12-13 minutes. Because five or even ten minutes in the oven toaster is not enough.

  • Food Quality: 4.5 out of 5
  • Affordability: A-
  • Overall: Cooking suggestion 12-15 minutes, and only 7 pieces is not enough.
