Big Time Meals | Chicken Barbecue

Chicken Barbecue has become a staple in every Filipino’s lunch meal, and thanks to a local restaurant that popularize it. But would it be possible to have it as a frozen meal? The answer is a yes, and 7 Eleven has done it what they have with their version of the Pork Barbecue skewered in a stick that a Chicken Barbecue is more popular.

Though it may look different as sometimes expectations can be high that 7 Eleven’s take on the dish would be equally the same. But it really depends on how you appreciate and take it. If you’re time is short or in a middle of a busy week a quick Bight Time Meals is all you need, and 7 Eleven might have delivered on this one.

Like the previous Big Time Meals, 7 Eleven have delivered in their way to make their frozen meals affordable. It is also understandable why the food portions have to ‘fit in with the budget’ to be within reach for the consumer. Despite also the challenges how they made this product it is still considered a budget meal.

The packaging is a little bit downgraded from the premium Big Time Meals as it is only covered with a vacuum sealed plastic featuring the image of the product, health facts, and ingredients that’s goes with the meal. Beside that a microwavable tub that is standard among the products 7 Eleven has offered.

Big Time in Quality

To make it affordable there are certain sacrifices in how the presentation should be that favourable. This Chicken Barbecue once you open the plastic top you’ll find the barbecue sauce in its tiny dip container, which is a little bit different with the Pork Barbecue that was rested on the side divider looking like it was dried up.

For this one, you find the sauce in its container beside the chicken, but it is not microwaveable as most have thought. You need to remove it. You don’t want melted plastic to go with your food. In that tray as well is your sides that seemed to be a little to balance out the presentation of your meal.

The orangey java rice looks impressive, but it seemed it’s not enough to match up with the chicken that looks like a “Pecho,” the meatier leg part that most people order at that famed local chicken joint. It might not be as meaty as you thought, but it sure needs to be paired with a java rice.

Meatier than Ever

After being heated on the microwave you see the chicken’s skin is browner than just being unpacked, and the java rice is brighter with its colour. They really looks good, and it taste good, not better, but real good. Because if you really wanted something better it’s that local chicken joint have that answer for you.

The barbecue sauce is the same one that came with the Pork version, but in a decent container not looking it dried out. But if you’re not satisfied by the way they included it a smoky version would make the chicken have more kick in it. So far for a budgeted frozen meal this was surely a winner.

Overall this Chicken Barbecue is a hot seller, and you’ll rarely see it just sitting there in the shelves. The chicken itself is understandably less hefty, but it fits in the budget along with the java rice that came it. The barbecue sauce was just right, but 7 Eleven need to sell an extra java rice for this it’s certainly good.

  • Food Quality: 4 out of 5
  • Affordability: A
  • Overall: Needs Extra Java Rice
